The Catholic Organization for Life and Family (COLF) deplores the legalization of same-sex "marriage" in Canada. By choosing to ignore natural law and to diminish the nature and value of marriage, the Government has given its approval to a social re-engineering experience of which we will only know the negative impact in the long term.

COLF encourages people and families who continue to support the historical vision of marriage to multiply their educational efforts in order to dispel confusion and to convey the truth about the institution of marriage to future generations. Canadian citizens should be ready to defend their freedoms of conscience, religion and expression. Particular attention will also have to be paid to the conjugal and family models which school curriculums will propose to children.

The redefinition of the word "marriage" changes nothing to the anthropological historically recognized reality of this fundamental social institution. It will always remain an alliance of love for life between a man and a woman, to the exclusion of all others —an alliance capable of naturally transmitting life.
